Why is BYFI doing fundraising?
While the Bronfman family continues to give generously to support
BYFI, the alumni community is responsible for funding the alumni
projects. As a sign of gratitude to the Bronfman family and
as a commitment to its fellow alumni, the alumni fully fund
all alumni projects. It is a way of ensuring that alumni have
the means by which to carry out their projects and to fulfill
the values set forth through BYFI: pluralism, social action,
text study and Israel.

But doesn’t the
Bronfman family give money?
Yes, the Bronfman family continues to give very generously to
BYFI. The gift they give goes to the summer program itself,
the staff and alumni activities. However, alumni projects are
fully funded by the money raised through the alumni fundraising
campaign. Giving to the campaign also is a sign of gratitude
to the Bronfman family for the gift which they continue to give
the community. It reflects the alumni’s appreciation for
BYFI and our commitment to its values: pluralism, social action,
text study and Israel.

Why should I give if
I don’t participate in projects or activities?
It is never too late to get involved in Bronfman alumni activities.
A lot of what happens in the community is driven by the alumni
themselves. Giving also helps to ensure that such a community
continues to thrive and carry out the four pillars of what we
all learned on our summer – pluralism, social action,
text study and Israel. Giving to the campaign is also a way
to help support your fellow alumni in their endeavors.

Where does my money go?
The money raised is kept separate from the day-to-day budget
of the Fellowship, its staff and the alumni activities. One
hundred percent of the money you give goes directly to funding
alumni projects, with no overhead. To see some examples of projects

Why should I give?
We were all given a tremendous gift when we were selected as
Bronfman Fellows. Our community is changing from one of not
just receiving the gift of the program, but also to giving back.
We, as Fellows, were charged with being the future leaders of
the Jewish community. By giving to the campaign we support our
fellow alumni as they carry out projects pertinent to the four
pillars of BYFI: pluralism, social action, text study and Israel.
Giving to the campaign is a sign of support for other alumni
and is also a sign of gratitude to the Bronfman family. By giving
we demonstrate that we continue to believe in and remain connected
to BYFI.
Is this a yearly campaign?
If so, why should I give more than once?
Yes, this is a yearly campaign. Each year the money raised is
distributed to a variety of alumni projects and each year more
alumni apply. As a community, it is important to continue to
support each other’s alumni projects.

What if I can’t
give that much?
What is most important is not how much you give but that you
give at all. The higher the percentage of alumni giving, the
better.
